Ingenious Talks: Orthopaedic Biomechanics
Wednesday 01 February 2017, 18:30 - 19:30
Description:

With speaker Andrew Speirs, Professor, Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering, Carleton University. Osteoarthritis is a painful degenerative disease that costs the Canadian healthcare system billions of dollars each year. It has been difficult to study because the affected tissues such as cartilage are deep inside our joints, covered by other tissues and are relatively inaccessible. This talk will describe methods we use to study the disease, especially in the early stages, to better understand the causes and that may lead to prevention or a cure. The methods include medical imaging (CT and MRI), computer simulation, and laboratory testing. Free event; all welcome.
