Southminster United Church, Aylmer Avenue at the Canal, will be one of the venues for this year's Music & Beyond Festival. Starting July 5, 2018, the church will be host to a number of different musical selections.
Once again Ottawa South’s Kevin Reeves has used his extraordinary talent to match music with a film of the silent era. On Friday, February 23 and Saturday, February 24, 2018, his superb chamber choir, Seventeen Voyces, will present Charlie Chaplin’s silent film comedy The Gold Rush at St. Matthew’s Anglican Church in the Glebe. The choir will sing a variety of songs, ranging from baroque to contemporary, with some jazz and spirituals as well.
Ebonies in Harmony is a two clarinet-one piano trio featuring Sylvie Duchesneau (clarinet-bass clarinet) and Roxanne Léveillé (clarinet) and myself, Fabien Tousignant (piano). We invite you to experience a wonderful repertoire which blends the virtuosity and “velouté” of these instruments. We have put together a nice programme of some favorites of the classical repertoire arranged for two clarinets and piano, along with pieces written specifically for this kind of ensemble. You will have the opportunity to hear works by Mendelssohn, Ponchielli, Dvořák, some Klezmer and more.
As one of twenty three longtime member churches of the Centretown Churches Social Action Committee, Southminster United Church provides ongoing donations of food and money to the Centretown Emergency Food Centre.
If you attend the Wednesday noon concerts at Southminster, please bring along an item of food to place in the collection boxes for the Food Centre. Each month some 900 individuals, including many families with children, benefit from a 3-day supply of food from the Centre. The volunteers who staff the Food Centre would suggest any item on the following list: canned tuna, salmon, meat and stews, canned vegetables, canned soups, canned beans, cereals, dry pasta, pasta sauce, or Kraft dinner.
On September 16 2017, the Music at Trinity concert series launches its third season. We are thrilled to have Emily Shaw and Craig Visser for 2017-2018 Music at Trinity opening concert. These two well established artists in Ottawa will perform a wonderful and varied programme for two guitars. It will include easily recognizable tunes and will also offer the opportunity to hear some of Mr. Visser’s own compositions.
