The summer period is a great time to be catching up with neighbours and friends – and what is more fun than sharing music, food and laughter on the street. The Belmont Street Party has proven to be a great day outdoors for young and old. Read on to find out about this year's event!
The active ones kick off the day with the Paddle Fest, on boats, paddle boards, kayaks, enjoying the Rideau River that flows along Windsor Park. Such a great sight to see all the people on the water, a peaceful part of nature right in the centre of Ottawa.
As a good Canadian Fest entails, the Belmont kids get action with a street hockey tournament. They challenge and support each other with potato sack hopping and a tug of war, crafts activities, and clear favorite: the piñata .This year the kids will be engaged in making the piñata, a street Chalk competition and we are looking forward to seeing more kids on stage making music and showing their talents.
The live music made the party last year. A band, joined spontaneously by many neighbours of all ages, with various styles of music, ensured a festive mood and dancing on the street.
And what is a party without food and drinks? The contributions to the potluck table were outstanding – we are thinking of publishing a cookbook with Belmont favorites. While people were roaming around and interacting they also visited the Auction table, where you could find some amazing gifts and services: Get your bike tuned! Learn how to make kombucha! Homegrown Belmont honey! Many original auction items were on the table and we will be seeing great new ones this year – some of the funding goes to support a local charity.
Dear neighbours! You are very welcome to join us at this year’s Belmont Street party – and celebrate the wonderful community in the place we live!
