The energy, the atmosphere, the live music – Oh My! In continuation to celebrate our big 4-0 at OSCA we wanted to up the ante with our annual art show. To make it a little bit bigger and concentrate on artists across our lovely city of Ottawa. If you joined us on June 17th, you would have seen 16 artist/creator vendors selling all different types of creations from hand-made jewelry to sand timers to glass creations to beautiful alcoholic base canvas art, to so much more! We even had a few Canterbury High School visual arts students selling their creations next to our food vendors: Yummy Cookies, Bombay Gardens Indian Food, and The Hot Potato Company.
Where would we be without the constant support of our local businesses?! Many showed their undivided and generous support by donating funds to different aspects of our event. Tracy Arnett Realty sponsored one of the Canterbury students at the event, while McKeen Metro sponsored another Canterbury student. The gals at Mud Oven came in as a community sponsor, where their money paid for one of our live bands to perform. A massive thank-you goes to DeSerres in Bells Corners for donating our 40th anniversary canvas (that will be proudly hung on one of the walls at the Firehall – keep an eye out) as well as supporting our event through discounts for art supplies for our art workshop put on by Gilda Pontbriand. Gilda Pontbriand and Beehive Studios came in as in-kind sponsors by generously donating their time and resources to putting on a kids area and an art workshop.
Who can forget about our three amazing bands? We had the very talented New Sounds, a new-school Jazz Quartet, warming the hearts of the crowd with their smooth and effortless music. The amazing Another Round (with Firehall staff member and local celebrity) Mr. Darcy Middaugh taking the stage. Steph La Rochelle was our final act, and finished the day on the best note possible. Her sultry and soothing voice serenaded our audience, leaving them wanting more.
A huge thank-you goes out to all the vendors, all the attendees, the musicians, the sponsors and everyone who had reached out to help out with this event. We wouldn’t have been able to do it without you.
