Green Dreamers Update: June 25, 2016

Green Dreamers will meet Saturday, June 25th, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Library.

The lovely poppy-filled flower bed facing Bank will be watered on Friday and so soil in this garden should be easier to work.

Green Dreamers Update: June 22, 2016

On Wednesday June 22nd Green Dreamers will meet at the Sunnyside branch of the library. Gardening hours are 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.

Please bring your gardening tools: we will be weeding, pruning, and dreaming. Time to find out what's up at the library and where to from here. Christine and Mike have been on site several times in the last couple of weeks and will guide us bed by bed.

Green Dreamers Update: June 13-18, 2016

Wednesday, June 15, 2016

On Wednesday June 15th Green Dreamers will meet at Sunnyside and Bank 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. The City plans to drop off two loads of mulch: one at Sunnyside and another at Glen. Please bring rakes for spreading and shovels for moving mulch. There may be some need for weeding before spreading but hopefully this will be minimal.

Green Dreamers Update: June 6-11, 2016

On Wednesday, June 8, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., the Green Dreamers met at Riverdale & Bank. On Saturday, June 11, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., the Green Dreamers will meet at again Riverdale & Bank.

Thank you to Green Dreamers for this last Wednesday. Much was accomplished and in the process we came upon a bird nest with babies newly hatched. An awesome early morning discovery. All seems to be well within the nest; we stepped back and avoided trimming in the near vicinity.

Riverdale & Bank is the challenge we have been holding back on. The grounds at this corner are in much need of a major overhaul. To realize our long-term vision for this corner we will need your input and some in-depth discussions with the City and the owner of the garage. In the short term, however, the beds need to be cleaned and pruned for the summer. We need your assistance to imagine what's possible at this corner. Perhaps, as early as the Fall, we might be able to re-design this corner as one of the key gateways to Old Ottawa South. We're hopeful.

Green Dreamers: Update May 30-June 4, 2016

On Saturday June 4th the Green Dreamers will meet at the Firehall. Roofers were busy at work when we arrived on Wednesday and so Green Dreamers moved to the garden bed outside the Dollar Store. On Saturday we hope to finish the pruning, weedin,g and digging at the Firehall. Hip, hip, hurray!!!

As you may have already heard, Sue Neill and Brian Ure of the Green Dreamers have (with the cooperation of OSCA) secured 500 tulip bulbs from the NCC. Needless to say, as gardeners, we are thrilled. Visions of what OOS might look like next spring with hundreds of tulips blooming in between the bridges and along Sunnyside Avenue spur us on as we weed, prune, and press our weight against pitchforks and shovels, preparing beds for this summer and next.

Green Dreamers: Update May 24-28, 2016

This week we are back to our regular schedule of Wednesday & Saturday mornings, 8:30 - 10:30am. On Wednesday May 25 we will meet at Glen Avenue. On Saturday May 28 Green Dreamers will meet at the Firehall, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m.

The side garden on Fairbairn is in need of some tender loving care, so bring your shovels, pitch forks, rakes, trowels, gloves, and gardening chairs. There will be some extra shovels and forks and we'll bring some brown bags. If there are enough of us we are hoping to spread out to Sunnyside & Bank. Some light turning of earth, shifting of existing plants, and some plantings are possible.

Garden Enrichment Day: Sat. May 21, 2016

We did not schedule any garden "working bees" for Wednesday May 18th. Normally we meet every Wednesday & Saturday. This week, however, we thought it wise to conserve our energy for Saturday May 21st when fetching and spreading compost will require as many hands as possible.

For Green Dreamers who choose to work on garden beds in OOS the hours this Saturday May 21st are 9:30 a.m. - 11:30 a.m. (for this week only).

For Green Dreamers driving to the Trail Road Site, which opens at 8:00 a.m., working hours will likely begin at 7:30 a.m. (departure time). Details will be confirmed before Saturday.
