Our Thanks to Local Businesses

GD 20151008 watering1 snIn the spring of 2015, the City planted a number of trees on Bank Street, including two in hot and dry places near Bank and Grove.

Thanks to Camilla Amundsen, one of Old Ottawa South's Green Dreamer team, who volunteered to take on the responsibility of watering these trees, the trees are thriving. Of course, to water, Camilla needed a supply of water.

Green Dreamers: A Call to Trowels!‏

It has been a while! I hope that all of you have enjoyed that last days of “true” summer and are embracing the oncoming season refreshed... or at least with begrudging acceptance.

Firstly, some excellent news: The Ottawa South Community Association has generously provided us with our initial funding! This means that we can proceed with our ambitions to renew the two gardens at Sunnyside and Bank!

To make this happen, we need your help.

Late July & August

As we move into late July & August and as more and more Green Dreamers slip into vacation mode, our schedule for weeding, loosening soil, trimming and pruning shrubs will likely fluctuate in pattern and number of days per month.

Thanks to the Green Dreamer Volunteers!

GD 20150711 Firehall3 sOn Wednesday, July 22, 2015 from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. the Green Dreamers met at Glen & Bank. These beds were already weeded and ready for some mulch. A truckload of mulch from the City of Ottawa arrived early in the week and the main task was to spread this mulch at Glen and Grove.

An update for August was also discussed.

Green Dreamers Tackle the Firehall Gardens

Green Dreamers 20150702 at the FirehallThe Firehall hasn't looked this good in three years! Ten Green Dreamers showed up Thursday, July 2, 2015 at 8:30 a.m. With trowels, shovels, gloves and bags in hand we tackled the grounds surrounding Old Ottawa South's Community Centre.

In a matter of hours most of the beds were turned, weeded and thinned, with some unexpected help from the City's compost pick-up crew who stopped to pick up Thursday morning's freshly-filled bags as well as bags from last week.
