Green Dreamers: From Grove to Glen‏

Green Dremaers 20150711 Bank at Grove  On Saturday, July 11, 2015, Green Dreamers spread themselves between two different garden beds: Grove & Bank and the Firehall. Weeding and trimming at Grove is now under control.  Manure and mulch have been dug into existing soil at the Firehall and beds are ready for planting. 

On Wednesday, July 15 from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. and on Saturday, July 18 from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., the Green Dreamers will meet to weed and trim the garden beds at Glen & Bank.

Green Dreamers End-of-June Update

We've Been Busy!

On behalf of myself and co-conspirators Eric Bays and Winnie Pietrykowski, I want to share with you the progress that has been made to date on our initiative to revitalize and maintain the publicly-owned planters and rain gardens in the Bank Street and Sunnyside Avenue corridors. Many of you have probably seen Winnie's article in the July/August edition of the OSCAR, so you're aware of some of the recent activity.

Calling All Garden Volunteers!‏

Green Dreamers 013  On Thursday, July 2, 2015 from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. and on Saturday, July 4, 2015 from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., the Green Dreamers will meet to weed & trim the garden beds outside the Firehall. All available hands are welcome; the more the merrier.

On Wednesday, July 8, 2015 from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. and Saturday, July 11, 2015 from 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., the Green Dreamers will meet to weed & trim the garden bed located at Grove & Bank near Bridgehead & Quickie. All available hands are welcome.

Green Dreamers June 2015 Update

Green Dreamers 001 DCOld Ottawa South's Green Dreamers are hard at work. On Saturday May 30th volunteers met at the corner of Belmont and Bank with rakes, bags, pitchforks, shovels, and trowels in hand to kick-off our first clean-up blitz along Bank Street between the Canal and the Rideau River.

Where soil was too compact for digging, the Dreamers loosened and weeded around bushes, digging wells to allow rain to reach their roots, cutting back Manitoba maples and Chinese elm (popular shrubs in our neighbourhood) and turning soil to remove tenacious, overgrown weeds.

Adopt-a-Garden: Spring Clean-up Blitz Sat. May 30, 2015

Spring is already in full swing and May is rushing towards June. I'm sure that we can all agree there's hardly a minute to lose.

Brian Ure  The gardens along Bank Street need some help to get them moving in the right direction for 2015: weeding, loosening soil, trimming and pruning shrubs are some of the pressing tasks we're hoping to tackle.

We'll meet at the corner of Bank and Belmont (at the benches by Georgetown Pub) at 9:30am Saturday, May 30th and disperse to those beds that are on public land and need our attention.

Are You Ready for a Greener, Lovelier Old Ottawa South?

Bank St WPVolunteers for the proposed Adopt-a-Garden initiative want to work with neighbours and local businesses to build a greener, lovelier Old Ottawa South. We hope to accomplish this goal by revitalizing and nurturing the public planters and garden beds along Bank Street between the bridges and on Sunnyside Avenue west of Bank – our goal is a more sustainable, livable, beautiful neighbourhood!
