Green Dreamers Update: September Gardening Plans

Welcome to September! It's "back to school" and "back to work" for many, and for Old Ottawa South's Green Dreamers it's "back to gardening."

sunflower at oplOnce again we're looking for your feedback.

Officially, we would like to kick off our September gardening "Fall Season" on Wednesday, September 7, 2016, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., with some new plants for our public garden beds.

Green Dreamers Update: Aug. 2, 2016

Hope you have all enjoyed the holiday weekend and wee respite from Bank Street planters that most of us have been taking over the past few weeks. Many thanks to Brian T. and Jill and anyone else who has done so, for their continued efforts. While we might be much enjoying the summer weather, the lack of recent rainfall is a concern as most of the locations are very dry. And the forecast is not promising for precipitation. Subsequently watering is our present priority.

Green Dreamers Update: July 16, 2016

It's that time of year when Green Dreamers shift into "vacation" mode and when gardening becomes a little lighter, more vicarious, and a little less frequent.

Wednesdays and Saturdays are our usual gardening days but from now until mid- or late-August, you as Green Dreamers are free to call your own working "bees." Please use this list serve to ask if fellow gardeners are free to help. A number of you are already informally gathering on days other than Wednesday & Saturday, so don't hesitate to organize your own pet projects, whether it's cleaning-up at Riverdale & Bank, watering at the library, or weeding at Glen.

Green Dreamers Update: July 13, 2016

Green Dreamers will meet Wednesday, July 13th, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m. at the Firehall.  Bring your pruning and weeding tools!

It was wet, cool Saturday morning on July 9th—a refreshing and welcome sight after the long stretch of dry, heavy heat and Green Dreamers took a well-deserved break to sit back,  take stock, and enjoy the work already done. It was wonderful to finally have rain!

Sunnyside Rain Gardens Update

For Green Dreamers who have been patiently waiting for news on the Sunnyside Rain Gardens, we're pleased to share the following update.

Green Dreamers Update: July 6, 2016

Welcome to July!

We hope all of you are beginning to enjoy the lazy heat of summer and the expanding growth of not only your own gardens but the public beds that we have been working on for the last couple of months. It's also that time of year when we shift into "vacation" gear and when gardening becomes a little lighter, more vicarious, when a different rhythm takes hold. Maintenance continues to be key to our success but watering and pruning gains more emphasis as opposed to composting and mulching.

Green Dreamers Update: June 29, 2016

On Wednesday June 29th, 8:30 - 10:30 a.m., Green Dreamers will meet at the library.

The City is scheduled to deliver one more truckload of mulch: the first half at the library, the second half at Riverdale & Bank. Please bring rakes for spreading and shovels for moving mulch. There may be some need for weeding before spreading but hopefully this will be minimal.

For those of you who have wheel barrows to share, please confirm their availability.
