Sunday, December 11, 2016 2:00-5:00 p.m. in Fellowship Hall at Southminster Church
Come and write letters to human rights defenders under attack, prisoners of conscience, and the government authorities with the power to end these human rights abuses.
This Amnesty International write-a-thon takes place in 200 countries and makes a difference! Last year participants at Southminster sent 161 letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience around the world. Three of the prisoners whose cases were highlighted in the 2015 campaign have now been released from prison.
Paper, pens, and envelopes will be available as well as sample letters. (If you have some blank cards to contribute, please do.) Donations will be accepted to cover the cost of postage.
Stop by for a coffee and stay for an hour or the whole afternoon. Youngsters can participate with family members, write their own greetings and draw pictures for prisoners of conscience.
Participants are asked to enter Southminster through the Galt Street door at the back of the church. Donations of a toonie will be welcome to help with the cost of postage. If you have any questions about the write-a-thon please get in touch with the church office at 613-730-6874 or Anne Whitehurst at 613-730-6831.
