Last Call for Volunteer Awards!

Each year at OSCA's Annual General Meeting we honour a few of the many volunteers in our community.

There are many ways residents in Old Ottawa South contribute to improving the lives of those in our community. From shovelling a neighbour's driveway, volunteering in an organisation or for an event, even spearheading an event or fundraiser. There are also many businesses who continually give back in a variety of ways.

Nominees are not required to have volunteered with OSCA. So anyone who has contributed can be nominated.

Volunteers Needed for Windsor Rink

As the winter gets colder, we're starting to plan our 2017 Windsor Rink season. Having an outdoor rink at Windsor Park would not be possible is if weren’t for the hard work of the volunteers – many of whom no longer use the rink themselves.

This year, we are looking to add more members to the team. The more volunteers we have, the less time each member of the team has to help flood. As the old saying goes, “many hands make light work.”

Call for Volunteers: OSCA's Board and Committees Are Seeking New Members

OSCA is an organization which cannot function without the assistance of volunteers, like you! We have a board of 17 volunteers, as well as 6 committees—Communications, Finance, Planning and Zoning, Programming, Special Events, Traffic and Safety. And many working groups that change annually. Currently we have a Governance Working Group and a Sponsorship Working Group.

A Dangerous Business

It's a dangerous business, Frodo, going out your door. You step onto the road, and if you don't keep your feet, there's no knowing where you might be swept off to.”     — Tolkien

This is a true story, (all the best ones are), of a young woman who joined a group and found more than she was looking for, changed, grew, and became an older woman with memories to last a lifetime.

Yes, that woman is me and 18 and half years ago I had what Dr. Phil describes as a Life Changing Moment. Many of you know this story, but for those who don’t……read on.
