Opening Reception at the Firehall June 29

OSCA Unveils New Logo

OSCA commissioned a new logo design to go with the renovated Firehall (our community centre), and we are now proudly revealing it! The hip new design was developed by Old Ottawa South resident Lori Steele.

Highlights of the OSCA Annual General Meeting

OSCA Members at AGM 2010A new Old Ottawa South Community Association board was elected at the Annual General Meeting on May 4th for the 2010-2011 year. Association members gathered in the Ladies' Parlour at Southminster Church to hear committees give their reports on the past year's activities, elect the new board, discuss current OOS issues, and mingle over wine and cheese.

Yoga for Haiti Raises $1000

On Sunday, Feb 7, OSCA Yoga Instructor Andrea Robertson and 29 yoga participants raised $1000 towards Red Cross Earthquake Relief efforts with a special yoga class. Andrea quickly organized the fundraiser with the help of the Ottawa South Community Centre's Program Coordinator Dinos Dafniotis.

The class took place at the Community Centre's temporary location in the basement of Southminster Church. The funds raised are eligible for the matching donation program from the Federal Government, which will turn the $1000 into $2000. Congratulations to Andrea and to those who donated and participated in the class. Well done!

"Heart of Ottawa" Calls on NCC and Parks Canada To Reconsider Lansdowne Park

The Old Ottawa South Community Association (OSCA) collaborated with 3 other community associations to call on the NCC and Parks Canada to reconsider their involvement in the Lansdowne Urban Park Competition and development process on April 30th, and released their letters to the press.

Consultant Pulls Out of Lansdowne Transportation Study

In a late-in-the-day surprise at the City of Ottawa's Special Joint Transportation committee meeting on Feb. 8, Delcan VP Ron Jack withdrew the consulting company's bid for the Lansdowne Transportation study, citing community concerns as a factor in the decision.

Brendan McCoy, co-chair of OSCA's OSWatch committee, had earlier given a presentation to the meeting outlining OSCA'S concerns regarding sole sourcing the study to Delcan, and the study's terms of reference. Several other community groups also made presentations at the meeting stating their concerns. The City of Ottawa must now find another consulting firm to conduct the study within the June deadline.

Meeting Details for Old Ottawa South Area Traffic Study

Meeting this Wednesday, April 28, 2010, 6:30 - 9:00 pm at Hopewell Avenue Public School (corner Hopewell and Bank)

The City of Ottawa is hosting the first of two Public Open Houses for the Old Ottawa South Area Traffic Management (ATM) Study, sometimes referred to as the Sunnyside Traffic Study. The first will be held on April 28, 2010, 6:30 - 9:00 pm, at Hopewell Avenue Public School (corner of Hopewell and Bank Street).

OSCA to Oppose Sole Sourcing Lansdowne Transportation Study

Two City committees will meet Monday, Feb. 8 to approve the sole sourcing of the study to Delcan, the same firm that produced last year's study for the group proposing to redevelop Lansdowne Park. OSCA, along with other community groups, opposes this, and encourages residents to contact their councillor This email address is being protected from spambots.
