Christy Savage

Executive Director

Growing up in Europe and Canada, as well as spending a year living in India, Christy has always had a passion for culture and what builds strong communities. In her early teens she began volunteering as an integration aid for children with special needs and came to see the vital role a community centre has in serving as the hub of the community in a variety of ways.

Having pursued a career spanning over 25 years in community and recreation Christy has built an extensive experience base in recreation and enrichment, community outreach, special events and fundraising.

Christy spent her high school years in Ottawa, attending St Pius X high school before moving to Montreal for university. After graduating from Concordia University with a BA Honours in Political Anthropology, she returned to Ottawa for two years to pursue graduate studies in Cultural Anthropology and Mediation at Carleton University. Christy returned to Montreal and began working as a coordinator for the YMCA. Soon after she was approached by a local parent’s group to plan and launch a recreational/enrichment program for elementary school aged children. For 16 years Christy was the Executive Director of that program, while continuing her community involvement by volunteering on local boards. During that time she also graduated with a BA specialization in Psychology, and completed a certificate in non-profit management at Mount Royal University.

Since June 2012 Christy has been the Executive Director of OSCA. The association has seen much change since Christy began, and she looks forward to further growth and expansion, the launch of exciting new programs, special events and community initiatives.

Sarah Cybulski

Preschool, Children & Youth Program Coordinator

Sarah was born and raised in a small town in the Ottawa Valley (kudos to you if you’ve heard of Killaloe).  After watching her mom, a school support counsellor, she realized at a young age that she wanted to work with children – maybe those with special needs.  At 19, she started working in camps for people with special needs and her love for programming began to blossom. She’s also helped to run recreation programs at the MS Society in Ottawa and at the Jack Purcell Community Centre.

Sarah attended the University of Ottawa, graduating from the School of Human Kinetics. While doing her bachelor’s, she developed a love for coaching, sport psychology, and community development. She must have loved it a lot, because she went on to do a Master of Arts in Human Kinetics, also at the University of Ottawa. Her thesis explored how Special Olympics coaches help their athlete to develop essential life skills for everyday life. Sarah hopes to be able to integrate her experiences and her education to develop more amazing programs for OSCA.

In her spare time, Sarah coaches hockey for the Nepean Minor Hockey Association. She also plays hockey, volleyball, and a lot of softball. You may also see her strumming her guitar or banging on a set of drums. She loves to attend concerts, travel, and dabble in photography. Her dream is to run a non-profit sport program for underprivileged children.

Communications and Marketing Coordinator

Becca has lived in Old Ottawa South nearly all her life and is deeply attached to this community. She moved here with her family when she was 8 years old and attended Hopewell public school. After graduating from Glebe Collegiate she attended Carleton University and received her B.A. in communications. After graduating she found herself craving a more creative profession and decided to focus on photography and design. Becca decided to leave Ottawa for a couple of years to study at Sheridan College in Oakville, ON. When she completed her diploma she moved back to Old Ottawa South and pursued a career in photography and art.

Becca has worked as a corporate photographer for over 10 years. She has worked for a variety of clients around the city, including architects, builders and advertising agencies. Becca has been working as an artist since 2008, she has been very lucky to have had her worked featured by a variety of local news outlets, including Ottawa magazine, CTV news and the OSCAR.

Becca is an avid amateur gardener and is a member of the Brewer Park Community Garden, where she volunteers as the internal communications coordinator. She loves baking and cooking (especially when it’s with the produce grown in her garden plot). Becca has also sat on the board of directors for the Glebe Co-operative Nursery School as the communications chair.

Amy Shaw

Administrative Coordinator

Amy was born in the small town of Lesser Slave Lake in Alberta. Her family moved to Ottawa when she was a toddler. She is now thrilled to be raising her family here as well. After graduating high school at St. Peter high school in Orleans, Amy earned an honours diploma in Police Sciences and has also studied Business Administration at Algonquin College.

Amy discovered her passion for community involvement, recreational programming and volunteer work through her children’s participation in a small community sports and recreation organization. Amy has also developed a desire to help bring sports and recreational programming to families that face cultural, social, and financial barriers.

Amy came to us from a local private online high school, where she was hired in 2011 for her superior customer service skills. She grew from being an administrative assistant in their Student Services Department to running all the day to day functions of the school. Amy was the school’s Admissions Manager, Guidance Manager, Human Resources Manager, and Teacher Liaison/Manager. Amy hopes to use her extensive administrative experience to keep the OSCA office running smoothly and efficiently.

She is actively involved in parent council at her boy’s schools. In her free time Amy enjoys reading, walking, yoga, and camping.
