Call for Volunteers: OSCA's Board and Committees Are Seeking New Members

OSCA is an organization which cannot function without the assistance of volunteers, like you! We have a board of 17 volunteers, as well as 6 committees—Communications, Finance, Planning and Zoning, Programming, Special Events, Traffic and Safety. And many working groups that change annually. Currently we have a Governance Working Group and a Sponsorship Working Group.

We need your help. Every year at our AGM in May we vote in our new Board. This year we are looking for 3 new directors. Additionally, each committee (specifically Special Events, Programming and Communications) needs new members.

Membership on a committee entails answering a maximum of 2-3 short emails weekly and attending a meeting for 1.5 hours monthly. There may be other projects the committee takes on, such as with Special Events—each member leads an event with a co-lead and with assistance from OSCA staff and the Executive Director. Any involvement would be based on your interest and the level of engagement you wish to take on.

Board membership entails remaining up to date on OSCA projects and work by reading the Board package each month, and attending Board meetings for 1.5-2 hours monthly. As well as voting on Board items.

It's a wonderful way to get involved and learn more about the wonderful community we live in, as well as meet people, make new contacts and friends.

You may click here to see a complete directory of OSCA's committees. You do not need to be a Board member to sit on a committee. All are welcome.

Volunteer Board

Communications Committee

The Communications Committee advises the Old Ottawa South Community Association (OSCA) on issues related to communications, including the structures, budget, processes and tools used by OSCA staff and volunteers to implement an effective communications strategy. On issues related to the information OSCA provides to the community, the Communications Committee is the Board’s primary liaison with residents, the City, and other organizations.

Program Committee

The Program Committee oversees the operations of recreational programming at The Firehall. OSCA runs a children's after school program, summer camps, pre-school, children and adult fitness, and adult general interest programs. The committee is also responsible for the Fitness Centre located in the building. Some of the issues the committee considers are the development of new programs, investment in new equipment, and the creation of new policies and procedures.

Special Events Committee

The Special Events Committee is a group of people, both OSCA board members and volunteers, who love a good party. We organize events that bring the Old Ottawa South community together to celebrate and to have fun.

Are you interested in getting involved with OSCA's Special Events Committee? Do you have a great special event idea to suggest? The Special Events Committee package outlines what we do and how to get involved. New ideas and members are always welcome!
