Matthew grew up in Hamilton, Ontario. In his teens he began volunteering with several organizations in the hopes of discovering a passion to pursue as a career. Volunteering with organizations like: Free the Children, Mount Hamilton Youth Soccer Club, Rotaract, Green Venture and the YMCA, Matthew learned first hand the importance and impact of volunteerism for both the community and individual. He finished highschool with the goal of pursuing teaching.Matthew moved to Ottawa to do an undergraduate degree at the University of Ottawa. At the end of his degree he decided teaching was not for him. After University he began working at Dovercourt Recreation Association. It was here experienced non-profit recreation and became captivated by working in a non-profit and recreation setting. He is excited to be working with OSCA and hopes to help facilitate volunteerism in the community.In his spare time Matthew is an avid hiker and runner. He enjoys watching and playing a variety of sports, and is a staunch supporter of the Montreal Canadiens. Phone: 613-247-4946

Luke was born and raised on the east coast of Canada in the small town of Quispamsis, New Brunswick. He moved to Ottawa in autumn 2009 after graduating high school to attend Carleton University. After realizing Psychology might not be the right path for him, he left Carleton and enrolled at Algonquin College to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Hospitality & Tourism Management. During his 4 years at Algonquin he worked at the historic Lord Elgin Hotel in downtown Ottawa. After graduating with honors he continued to work in the accommodation sector for a couple of years and has now joined OSCA looking for a new challenge and a change of scenery. He is excited about the new direction and looking forward to becoming a part of the community. Outside of work, Luke enjoys frequent exercise such as heavy weightlifting several times a week and cycling wherever possible. He also has a passion for the arts: he has played piano and guitar for many years and has recently developed an interest in sketching and watercolor painting. Phone: 613-247-4946

Ayo Oshodi was born in Nigeria and raised across Tanzania, the UK and Nigeria. After obtaining her BSc in International Relations, Ayo spent her time working with a non-profit focused on empowering women and children across Africa. This experience ignited Ayo’s passion for contributing to positive societal change through sustainable solutions. Consequently, she pursued her MSc in Capacity Development and Extension with International Development Studies at the University of Guelph. Ayo believes the capacity to positively impact our communities lies within each and everyone of us. She is thrilled to be OSCA’s Marketing and Communications Coordinator. In her spare time, she enjoys exploring her creativity through music, writing and graphic designing.

Darcy has been working with children for over 20 years in Ottawa. After returning from Loyalist College in the ECE program, Darcy coordinated several programs for preschool and school-aged children at other community centres around the city. He’s been at OSCA for a decade and has greatly enjoyed his time in OOS. You may know Darcy from the programs he has coordinated here, including Everything But The Kitchen Sink JK-SK Camps, the JK-SK After-Four program, and many preschool programs around the Firehall. He’s also been heavily involved in helping at special events such as Fall Fest, the Porch Sale, and Breakfast with Santa. Darcy has recently taken on coordinating episodic recreation programs for school-aged children after school. In his spare time, you might catch Darcy playing his guitar and performing for others at different events. He also enjoys travelling, playing hockey and going camping during the summer.

Katherine has a diploma in Early Childhood Education and has a passion for working with children of all ages and stages. She began working at the Firehall one morning a week 12 years ago in what it is now known as our Busy Kids playgroup. In November 2015 she joined the our after four program as the coordinator of the grade 1-3’s. Her creative side can be seen in the crafts the children create in her programs. You will often catch her and a crew of children making decorations for the centre in the lobby area of the Firehall.

Chris Lawson is a freelance writer and web producer who has lived in Old Ottawa South since 2008. A Toronto expatriate, Ottawa has been home since 1992. He produced his first website in 1996 and has been fascinated by computer-mediated communications since 1986 when 2400 BAUD modems were exotic luxury items. He’s an avid road cyclist and wilderness canoe tripper.
