Billings Bridge Changes, Bank Street Bike Lanes

On September 14, 2023, Council approved a plan to add a bike lane in each direction on Bank Street between Riverside Drive westbound and Chesley Street, including on the Billings Bridge. The recommended plan proposes reducing the number of through-lanes for vehicles on this segment from two per direction to one, in order to accommodate the bike lanes. The plan also includes modifications at the Riverside Drive and Riverdale Avenue intersections to provide right-turn lanes and traffic signal changes to reduce conflicts between bicycles and motor vehicles. These works will connect to further cycling improvements on Bank Street, south of Riverside Drive, where the Bank Street renewal project will provide cycle tracks extending to Ledbury Avenue.
