- Proposal by Trinity to modify their New Horizons program in view of Covid-19
While there was not a consensus on this item, there was a strong majority feeling that the plan to have meals delivered to seniors in their homes simply failed to fulfill the objective of increased sense of community that was important in the original proposal. For this reason, it was agreed (by majority except one) that SWOOS would not endorse the proposal. But Anna will meet again with Trinity’s Heather Maclachlan to discuss the possibility of shifting the primary focus from food to connectivity and information. The majority did not see food as a priority right now.
- Anna will ask the three graduate Carleton U. students of the READi program, to include Trinity in the next meeting this week and focus on how to help seniors overcome lack of confidence with technology. We discussed different approaches. Anna asked Christine and Barbara to join her at the meeting with the READ-i group exploring other avenues to enhance a sense of community – e.g., Zoom instructions in hard copy. Helen offered herself in the role of luddite. Virtual communications can definitely foster a sense of connectivity; the challenge is to make them more accessible.
- No date set for next meeting.
