    We need your support

At a time when community matters more than ever, we're at risk of closing our doors. Due to COVID-19, our beloved Firehall has been largely closed since March. Now, without more funding, we face shutting down for good. Please, donate to the Campaign to Save Our Firehall, and help us continue providing programming, serving our community, and bringing friends and neighbours together for many years to come.

 SAVE OUR FIREHALL

We are now “ringing the bell” and calling on all residents to help Save Our Firehall! We need your help to keep our community centre open. Restrictions due to COVID-19 have had a huge impact on our Firehall’s ability to sustain itself. To thrive, the Firehall relies on revenues from the programs it delivers. The City owns the Firehall and maintains it but doesn’t cover operational costs. If we are to make up the shortfall in operational costs, we need to fundraise. How can you help? You can help by pledging your financial support on a monthly basis. No amount is too small or too big. Every donation counts. Monthly pledges add up over time and with many families pledging their support we can make sure that our community centre remains open in 2021.

Winter 2021 Program Updates

We have updated our program line-up!

At OSCA, we’ve all been hard at work planning for a January programming lineup that focused on trying new things. As you know, this is our first Winter program schedule that’s been fully remote. We were already well into our Winter programs last year when things dramatically changed in March. We truly hope that you’ve had a chance to review our Winter Program Guide and skim through the things we have lined up. Registration is on-going and it is never too late to join!

Santa is on his way to Old Ottawa South!

Community-Wide 2021 Programming Survey

We want to know what you need for onsite and virtual school aged children's programming in Winter 2021!

Since Covid restrictions have been in place the team at OSCA have been hard at work reinventing programming and the way we engage with the community. Now that we have reviewed our safety protocols and have had a successful Fall Session with Virtual Programming and a small group participating in our After 4 program on-site, we want to hear from you.

What kind of programming would you like OSCA to offer in the Winter?

If you have ideas or have seen some great programming, or you have a skill or talent that you'd like to turn into a program with OSCA, let us know!

So far we're planning some outdoor events, winter sports activities at Windsor Park, social-distancing groups, a walking group, more craft kits, front yard classes for you and your bubble, and more...

HalloweeK at the Firehall

Knowing that this Halloween was far from a traditional one, OSCA staff put together a whole bunch of Spooktacular activities. OSCA's HalloweeK featured lots of pre-recorded Halloween crafts, spooky front porch decorations at the Firehall, our very own pumpkin patch to entice the Great Pumpkin to visit Old Ottawa South, a Halloween decoration contest, and more. And from Thursday until Saturday evening, local resident and videographer Mark MacDonald created a spooky video display that is projected onto the large windows of the Michael Jenkin Hall.

We would like to thank all residents and participants for making HalloweeK such a spooktacular and ghoultastic success and invite you to check out some of the highlights below, including a video from CTV news featuring the Halloween projections at the Firehall!

After 4 Update - Limited Spaces Available

OSCA staff have been working hard with the Operations Committee and the Board to develop an operational plan to open After 4. After weeks of planning, we have a detailed plan that was recently approved by the Operations Committee, the OSCA Board, and the City of Ottawa. The operation plan follows all procedures and requirements set by Ottawa Public Health.

We are proud to announce that we welcomed our first cohort back to the Firehall on Wednesday, September 16th! If you would like to register for a spot, we urge you to do so as soon as possible, allowing us to create the next cohort(s).

We want to share some of the key changes we've made to the way we will be operating After 4 in the Fall:

The Big Myth about OSCA's Funding - President's Report September 2020

So what do you think is the biggest myth about the Old Ottawa South Community Association?

Most of the people I talk to in the neighbourhood think that OSCA is funded by the City of Ottawa. Here is the reality.

The City owns the Firehall and is responsible for the maintenance of the building. The City, however, does not cover the operational costs. Operational costs include: staff wages; instructor fees; program supplies; the equipment in the Fitness Centre; the pottery wheel and kiln; Amilia (the new program registration system); the website; computers; communication services; furniture; replacing kitchen appliances; etc.
