 SAVE OUR FIREHALL

We, all of us at OSCA (staff and volunteers), want to thank Old Ottawa South once again for your generosity to the “Save Our Firehall” campaign. Your pledges and contributions have surpassed $110K. That’s a lot to be proud of! You have made it possible to keep our doors open.

To those of you who pledged your support on a monthly or recurring basis, thank you for your ongoing support. No amount is too small and every donation adds up. It’s a tremendous financial and moral "boost" as we strengthen our capacity to offer more programs and services.

Safety remains our top priority and we continue to meet and even exceed Ottawa Public Health COVID-19 recommendations. We look forward to seeing more of you.

Willard Water and Sewer Construction Chemistry

As I watched the operation of this small crew of five construction workers do their thing earlier this summer — replacing water and sewer lines on Willard Street — I was impressed by the degree of precision needed by all five of them. The whole business seemed like ‘earth-dentistry’ except for the need for sterile technique; even there, they have to be very careful not to sever existing gas lines… or push through any of the brand-new copper water service lines.

Capital Pathways Survey

The National Capital Commission is conducting a short survey to better understand the use of the Capital Pathway Network. There's still time to respond: deadline to complete the survey is September 15, 2021.

The Capital Pathway Network refers to the pathways shared by pedestrians, joggers, in-line skaters, skateboarders, and cyclists, which are found along both sides of the Rideau Canal, along the Ottawa and Rideau Rivers, in Gatineau Park, and in other urban and suburban areas such as the Experimental Farm, Watts Creek, the Aviation Museum, and Leamy Lake Park.

Bank Street Bridge Reconfiguration

Bank Street Bridge Reconfiguration

Comments are requested by April 22, 2021 on the proposed changes for the Bank Street Canal Bridge.

What: The City is designing improved active transportation (i.e., cycling and pedestrian) facilities on the Bank Street bridge over the Rideau Canal. In September 2020, City Council members endorsed a concept design for the bridge crossing that included a reduction of vehicle lanes over the bridge from the existing four lanes to three lanes in order to accommodate active transportation facilities.

Bank Street Bridge Changes

The City of Ottawa has once again converted the outside curb lanes on the Bank Street Bridge for more space, safety, and active transportation.

Reconfiguration of Bank Street Bridge Public Consultation

Permanent changes are also coming to the bridge, moving from a 4-lane model to a 3-lane model. The display boards showing the proposed changes have been uploaded to the project webpage.

Winter Maintenance Survey

Winter Maintenance Survey

Capital Ward office has put together a survey to help inform the city's long overdue review (last updated in 2003!) of winter maintenance quality standards (underway now).

The survey focuses on the pedestrian and cyclist winter experience, and it will, along with a subsequent report on the results, supplement the first report on snow clearance and winter maintenance released in early 2020 following a Community Information Session on Snow Clearance in 2019.
