 SAVE OUR FIREHALL

We’ve come a long way since March of last year! There is certainly a familiar (and at times frustrating) rhythm to COVID-19 restrictions but we continue to adapt, offering community programming when safe and possible under official health guidelines.

Our in-person After-4 program has been running since September 2020 and continues to grow as we become more confident and more knowledgeable about how to manage groups safely. We are adapting to changing COVID-19 scenarios, developing in-person activities (especially for children) to explore and learn in an active, safe and fun setting, outside and inside.

Thank you for your support and generosity.  Whether it’s registering for a program or pledging your financial support on a monthly basis, every contribution counts. Monthly pledges add up over time and with many families pledging their support we can make sure that our community centre remains open in 2021.

Bank Street Bridge Reconfiguration

Bank Street Bridge Reconfiguration

Comments are requested by April 22, 2021 on the proposed changes for the Bank Street Canal Bridge.

What: The City is designing improved active transportation (i.e., cycling and pedestrian) facilities on the Bank Street bridge over the Rideau Canal. In September 2020, City Council members endorsed a concept design for the bridge crossing that included a reduction of vehicle lanes over the bridge from the existing four lanes to three lanes in order to accommodate active transportation facilities.

Winter Maintenance Survey

Winter Maintenance Survey

Capital Ward office has put together a survey to help inform the city's long overdue review (last updated in 2003!) of winter maintenance quality standards (underway now).

The survey focuses on the pedestrian and cyclist winter experience, and it will, along with a subsequent report on the results, supplement the first report on snow clearance and winter maintenance released in early 2020 following a Community Information Session on Snow Clearance in 2019.

The Bank Street Canal Bridge – Feedback from the OSCA Traffic and Safety Committee

The Bank Street Canal Bridge – Feedback from the OSCA Traffic and Safety Committee

The Bank Street Canal Bridge has been a source of concern for neighbouring residents for years. At street level, it is unsafe and unpleasant for pedestrians and cyclists. From a distance, the bridge is beautiful with its rounded arches crossing the canal and has a historic designation – it should be a joy to cross, but it is not.

Since he has been in office, Councillor Shawn Menard and his staff have been working with City staff to try and find a solution to the woes of the bridge. Over the summer, he has asked for input to several proposals.

Bank Street Canal Bridge Redesign
