The two outdoor rinks at Brewer Park officially opened Sunday, January 10, 2021, after volunteers from Ottawa-area speed skating clubs spent that morning flooding the rink surfaces. But a note of caution to shinny enthusiasts: no sticks, no pucks, no nets. “The penalties are fierce,” noted a volunteer from the Ottawa Pacers. “It can be several hundred dollars.”

About two years ago I arrived at Hopewell School on a Monday night to play volleyball for the first time in 19 years. I was unsure if I could still serve the ball in a straight line, or be able to walk the next day after muscle soreness set in. I was immediately greeted by Bob Adamyk who, for the last thirty years, has coordinated recreational sports at Hopewell School for community members interested in playing volleyball, basketball and badminton.
Conditions Near Perfect for Capital Ward Cup 2019
The Cup is back. After last year’s cancellation due to warm, slushy weather, the annual Capital Ward Cup returned in full force January 26th under the tutelage of newly inaugurated City Councillor Shawn Menard. The Old Ottawa South Moose played a characteristically strong tournament but fell 6-3 in the final to the perennial favourites, the Old Ottawa East Hosers.
