Due to a water main break on Colonel By Drive, the City will be closing Colonel By Drive Saturday, December 10th from approximately 7 AM to Sunday, December 11th to approximately 7 PM. More details on the planned repairs can be found below.
Phase 1 (Investigation) – Excavation within Colonel By Drive to expose the existing 1067mm diameter watermain and determine the source of the leak. Colonel By Drive will need to be completely closed this weekend from 7am on Saturday December 10th to approximately 7pm on Sunday December 11th. Detours will be in place. Night work may be required, thus a noise bylaw exemption will be required. Upon completion of the this investigative work, the excavation will be backfilled and roadway will be temporarily reinstated to allow for the return of vehicular traffic Sunday night. On Monday, December 12th, the contractor will return to site during non-peak hours to place hot mix asphalt pavement on the road cut. The purpose of phase 1 is to determine what materials will be required and ordered in order to repair the pipe. It is expected that the watermain will remain out of service until repairs are complete.
Phase 2 (Repairs) – Upon receipt of necessary repair materials, Colonel By Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic to allow for the repair work to take place. Roadway will need to be re-excavated to facilitate the repairs and/or pipe replacement. Once repairs are completed and tested, roadway will be again be temporarily reinstated to allow the roadway to be re-opened. Temporary road reinstatement is required due to winter conditions. The length of the required road closure and timing for phase 2 is yet to be determined.
Phase 3 (Reinstatement work – Spring 2023)– Remove temporary road repair and reinstate roadways with new concrete curbs and hot mix asphalt pavement. Reinstate all disturbed landscaped areas to match pre-construction conditions.
