I’m sure we’re all familiar with the wonderful Firehall and the fantastic range of activities it offers to the community, from fitness and yoga classes to children’s camps and even a pottery studio. What makes all of this possible is the hard work of OSCA’s incredibly dedicated staff and instructors, who are truly experts in their fields. However, we can’t forget about the equally important role played by the volunteer Board and Committee members who govern the organization.
Without their tireless efforts and commitment, there would be no OSCA and no community programs to enjoy. And OSCA, beyond running the Firehall’s programmes and activities such as the annual porch sale, is also the voice of our community on a range of issues which affect all of our daily lives: zoning (what can be built and where?), traffic (are our streets friendly and safe for children, pedestrians and cyclists?), environment (will our community and the world be a sustainable place in the future?), diversity & inclusion (does our community serve the needs of all its residents?}. Each of these questions, to name just a few, has its OSCA Committee. So no matter what your interest, there is a place you can get involved.
Every spring, the OSCA Board renews its membership and restocks its Committees, replacing those who are moving on and bringing in fresh perspectives. So now is the time to get involved. It’s a chance to meet your neighbours, get involved, and make a difference in our community. For more information, contact nominations@oldottawasouth.ca before 31 May.
