Tuesday, October 10th marks Sammy’s 2023 bottle drive fundraising campaign. Please place your wine and beer bottles, and especially your aluminum cans on your porch before 6 pm. Sammy and I will be running the streets of Old Ottawa South, between Bank Street and Main Street, raising money to fund his passion of swimming.
Sammy regularly wakes up at 4:30 am for morning practices, and trains 10 times a week. His commitment and perseverance enabled him to participate as a 16-year-old at the Canadian Junior Championships. This year he is looking to repeat his success and improve on his performance. But the road to success is a long one.
Between now and August, Sammy will have several competitions, some local, provincial and national, and hopefully a couple training camps with specialized coaching. Our family prioritizes the value of money and insists on working hard towards our goals. Along with a few side jobs, and part-time work as a lifeguard and swimming instructor, Sammy is working towards his swimming goals. However, this bottle drive is a HUGE component, and demonstrates our community’s support for Sammy in so many different ways.
We are so proud of Sammy’s determination and accomplishments, and the resounding support from our neighbors and community. Thank you again for your participation in past bottle drives, and we look forward to recycling your bottles soon.
Jean-Benoit Lanca is Sammy’s proud father, and lives in OOS.
