Fundraiser supporting the Ottawa Food Bank
On December 9, 2023, Big Soul Project Community Choir & Deep Groove Band, conducted by Music Director Tahlia DeCorso, will perform “A Soul-Filled Christmas” – our annual Christmas Concert. The choir & band will be joined by Zeke Gross on saxophone who will be leading a four-piece brass ensemble. The guest master of ceremonies will be Adrian Harewood. The concert will feature gospel, soul and pop songs of peace, love & unity, as well as some Christmas favourites.
Big Soul Project’s (BSP) mission is to bring people together to promote a sense of connection and empowerment through music. BSP concerts are always a joyous affair! We invite the audience to sing along, clap along, and dance in the aisles. The choir is motivated by the enthusiastic response of the audience. As one audience member exclaimed after a recent BSP concert “your music made me smile, and the more I smiled, the more the choristers smiled!”
BSP’s 2022 Christmas concert raised over $16,000 for the Ottawa Food Bank. This year we hope to fill the house and raise even more. We have already spread much joy earlier this year by holding benefit concerts to raise funds for community outreach groups including Ancoura (supportive housing) and the Ottawa South Committee to settle refugees.
At least five of our choir members, including Karen Aston, Niki DiVito, and Colin Harris, live in the Old Ottawa South community, and we want to spread the joy of music with you at the BSP Christmas concert. Karen says “I have been a member of BSP since 2009 and always look forward to singing in our annual Christmas concert, and to inviting neighbours, friends, and family to join in the spirit and the fun.”
Other members comments:
- “As a band member…I really enjoy the musical interaction between the voices and instruments that make our BSP sound unique and whole. I enjoy being able to provide the pulse and drive necessary to keep the feet moving and the bodies swaying.
- “I come on Monday evenings for the friendship, the strong sense of community and to sing my heart out.”
- “We may arrive at a choir practice feeling tired from all of life’s troubles… yet we leave feeling uplifted and full of joy.”
- “Joyful…soulful…groovin’…foot tappin’…hand clappin’…body movin’…thankful.”
