We’re looking for cycling enthusiasts to help organize the 2018 Capital Spokes Bike Rally & Rodeo. If you’re interested contact OSCA’s Traffic & Safety Committee at trafficandsafety [AT] oldottawasouth [DOT] ca.
If you cycle or just plain love the idea of working with other enthusiastic cyclists we’d like to hear from you. Organizing a rally can be both challenging and fun. We encourage individuals, families and organizations to take part. There is room for everyone!
If you are looking for a way to encourage safe cycling habits, to better understand how communities and our City work together to promote cycling safety, to develop leadership and organizational skills among your peers then this “gig” is for you!
The tentative target date for the rally is September 2018. Last year some 125 cyclists participated in the Capital Spokes Bike Rally & Rodeo. For more stories and pictures of the 2017 event check out the OSCAR archives (May to July/August 2017).
It took quite a few players to make the June 2017 Bike Rally/Rodeo a success: OSCA's Traffic & Safety Committee, David Chernushenko's office (David & Ian Grabina) who supported the Rally from the very beginning, our community partners in the Glebe, OOE, Heron Park who welcomed our proposal on the first go-around, the City of Ottawa's Safer Roads Program and the staff at OSCA.
There were many "nameless" volunteers who by their very spirit and encouragement made the rally worth the effort: the Beaver Scouts, Hopewell School principal, parents & staff, our children, grandchildren, their friends & families, the paramedics, police, Cam Bike trainers, the folks from Safe Cycling who with the Beaver Scouts saved the day with obstacle courses, a jellied brain, helmet fittings and a bike wash.
We’re open to your suggestions and we’re here to guide you through the various steps necessary to organize another Bike Rally & Rodeo in the fall of 2018. Again, if you’re interested contact OSCA’s Traffic & Safety Committee at trafficandsafety [AT] oldottawasouth [DOT] ca.
