The Federation of Citizens’ Associations of Ottawa (FCA), an umbrella organization of Ottawa community associations, has awarded their inaugural Award for Media Excellence to OSCAR contributor Ed Kucerak. The award was for “Excellence in-depth reporting on 2017 municipal/ neighbourhood issues”, and was given for a two-article report Ed wrote for the May 2017 OSCAR. The winning articles looked at the public consultation on Brewer Park’s renewal. The report, comprising two separate articles, included many photographs and interviews with both Councillor David Chernushenko and local residents.
Ed Kucerak is a photographer and documentary director/producer. He is the founder of Kublacom Pictures, an independent film and media company, and he lives in Old Ottawa South.
Ed was recognized at the FCA’s Annual General Meeting on June 20, 2018 where it was it was my pleasure to introduce him.
The Award consists of a monetary donation to a local charity of the author’s choice, as well as article and author’s citation being posted on the FCA website and in their monthly newsletter. Ed directed his $100 award to the Centretown Connections Men’s Health and Wellness Support Group. It is a men’s peer support group formed to help people living in rooming houses dealing with health issues.
After receiving the award Ed told me that “I am very proud to have won this award on behalf of OSCAR and our community Old Ottawa South.”
