For 15 years Amnesty International Write for Rights has given people hope in their darkest moments. Last year participants at Southminster sent 142 letters on behalf of prisoners of conscience around the world. Come join friends and neighbours at the Write for Rights event at Southminster United Church on Sunday afternoon, December 9th, from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m.
Stop by for a cup of coffee or tea and stay for an hour or the whole afternoon. Your letters can help convince government officials to stop the persecution of people standing up for human rights and release people imprisoned for expressing their opinions, Letters of support and solidarity also go to those being harassed and those in prison. Paper, pens, and envelopes will be available as well as sample letters. There is also detailed background provided about each of the ten cases for this year’s write-a-thon.
