January marks the second month of OSCA's Winter Art Exhibit at the Firehall. The exhibit continues to the end of February 2020 and is open for viewing seven days of the week, the same hours of operation as the Firehall at 260 Sunnyside Avenue.
In November 2019 over 30 artists submitted "artistic expressions of winter" using a variety of mediums such as photography, needlepoint, ceramics, clay, watercolor, and acrylic. The number of submissions by local artists has grown since the 2019 spring and fall exhibits and so have sales. One hundred percent of each sale goes directly to the artist.
Some of the art pieces on display are the products of painting and pottery classes offered at the Firehall. However, the decision to include submissions from all local artists has turned up some surprising results. Who knew that a fellow dog walker from Windsor Park was also an accomplished acrylic painter, or that another neighbour's sewing room produced images in fabric so popular that if you didn't see it the first week of the exhibit, it was gone the next.
More important than the sales, however, has been the opportunity for local artists to display their talent in our community. We invite you to come to the Firehall, browse through the art in our main foyer, and consider the possibility of entering the next art exhibit beginning in March 2020.
