The Old Ottawa South Moose won the annual Capital Ward Cup Saturday, February 1, 2020, posting a convincing 4-1 victory over the defending champion Old Ottawa East Hosers at the newly re-opened Mutchmor Rink in the Glebe. Glebe and Heron Park rounded out the four participating teams.
This year marked the 12th annual rendition of the four-on-four one-day shinny tournament initiated by former Capital Ward Councillor Clive Doucet in 2008. The event was cancelled in 2018 due to warm, slushy conditions.
The tournament coincided with an outdoor party hosted by the Glebe Neighbourhood Activities Group (GNAG) to recognize the re-opening of the rink, which closed in 2013 during work on the Mutchmor Public School addition.
The Moose have now claimed the Cup five times, one less than the Hosers. Glebe has won once. Next year, the tournament is expected to be hosted by Old Ottawa South, giving the Moose a chance on home soil—or ice—to tie Old Ottawa East for most wins.
