In addition to a silent auction, networking opportunities, and wine & cheese, our fifth annual Women's Day Celebration will feature two guest speakers! Click "Read More" to learn a little about them!
Heather Andrews is a co-founder of Wheelhouse Cycle, Ottawa’s premier spin studio. With 2 locations (and a third coming in 2020!), Heather and her business partner have grown both the Wheelhouse brand and spin culture in Ottawa. As a queer, female entrepreneur, Heather knows a little about #eachforequal. Wheelhouse was always built to be an inclusive and welcoming space - to be a gym that would counter toxic masculinity and the negative aspects of fitness culture - but having queer leadership tipped the scales for Wheelhouse and it has become widely known as a safe space for the LGBTQ+ community. By championing herself first, Heather has championed other women and members of the LGBTQ+ community.
Christine McAllister - What Have You Got to Lose... Really?
Christine McAllister Is a long-time community volunteer and advocate who is passionate about sharing her experiences and supporting younger women in developing their careers. A strategic thinker and numbers person, she joined the financial industry after earning her MBA to challenge prevailing attitudes about women in finance. In 2018 Christine stepped back from a leadership role in the industry to follow her passion for community service and ran for municipal office. She came in a close second, losing by only a few hundred votes, but her strong and positive campaign, fuelled by almost 150 local volunteers, contributed to the highest voter turnout in the city. Christine now shares her experience to encourage others to try new things, take risks and overcome their fear of losing.
