The City staff report on Growth Management projections that will guide future residential construction in Ottawa until 2046 was released last Friday, April 24, 2020.

The proposed "balanced scenario" allows for 51% of future growth through intensification in neighbourhoods such as ours and for 49% to be achieved through expansion of the current urban boundary.

Many community groups concerned with climate change, reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, urban sprawl, etc. are advocating for 100% of growth until 2046 to be achieved through intensification with no expansion of the urban boundary.

Achieving this goal means accepting significantly greater densities in Old Ottawa South and other inner urban neighbourhoods. We all need to take the time to understand the pros and cons of this important issue and to formulate our own personal responses. Please review the City staff report and provide feedback to the City and to our councillor, Shawn Menard, prior to the joint Planning Committee/ ARAC on May 11, 2020.
