An Important Update on OSCA Summer Camps

Print Email

Thank you for your patience while we waited for direction from the Ontario Provincial Government and the City of Ottawa regarding the safe operation of summer camps at the Firehall.

As you may know, the City of Ottawa directed all community/recreation centres to close as of March 16th to June 30th at the earliest. You can read more about the City of Ottawa Recreational facility closures here. Following this directive, we made the decision to cancel our first week of Summer Camps in 2020 as well as our sleepaway camps.

Earlier this week, we became aware of new regulations and safety precautions regarding 2020 summer camps. Given these new regulations, we will not be able to run the variety of camps with the same number of spaces as in previous years. As a result, we will be issuing full refunds for all 2020 Summer Camp payments made to date.

Given the rules of physical distancing and the expectation that this and other policies would seriously reduce the capacity of camps, we have been hard at work developing a separate virtual summer camp program for all ages. The summer program guide will be published online the week of June 15th.

On the note of on-site full-day summer camps, we are currently developing a proposal for the City of Ottawa and Ottawa Public Health for smaller-scale camps. These camps will be groups of no more than 8 children and with space restrictions, we cannot foresee accommodating more than 16-20 spots in total each week throughout the summer. While we will have to submit a proposal to the City for approval after a site tour, and although the OSCA team will be required to develop policies and procedures at an unprecedented rate, we remain committed to developing a small number of camps if approved.

We will, as always, keep you updated and communicate all changes.

We will begin processing summer camp refunds (in full) this week and expect this process to be completed within 10 to 12 business days. Thank you for your patience. You will be emailed when we have finished processing the refunds. You do not have to send in a refund request; however, we may need to contact you in order to finalize your refund if you paid in person. If this is required, we will contact you by email.

We thank you for your support and understanding. We wish our clients the best during this difficult time.
