Access to public toilets is a universal need and a basic human right. The “Our Ottawa Needs Public Toilets” Project is looking for artists in the National Capital Region (City of Ottawa and City of Gatineau) to intensify advocacy efforts and challenge negative political and public opinion about public toilets. The main purpose of this campaign is to raise public awareness by fostering community solidarity around improving access to a network of safe, clean, and accessible public toilets throughout the National Capital.

Based on the innovative and successful campaign “My Winnipeg Includes Public Toilets” (2019), this GottaGo! Campaign has adapted the project and this is a call-out for virtual platforms. This project is in partnership with The Art House Café, a community art hub.

The Campaign

GottaGo! Is calling for visual, spoken word, song, poetry, or video pieces that raise public awareness about the need for public toilets in Ottawa. We’re seeking to engage artists who can help us challenge widespread misconceptions about public toilets and draw attention to this as a basic human rights issue! Safe, clean, and accessible public toilets are essential public health infrastructure for a truly livable city.

Submission deadline extended to September 30, 2021. Full submission guidelines available on the Gotta Go! website.
