What's New at OSCA

As a result of the impact of COVID-19, the Old Ottawa South Community Association (OSCA) has restructured its internal management and program delivery team. As part of this restructuring, Christy Savage, OSCA’s Executive Director since 2012, has left OSCA to pursue other career opportunities.

During her tenure with OSCA Christy played a key support role in the expansion of recreational programming, the negotiation of a Service Level Agreement with the City of Ottawa, the changing of the articles of the OSCA charity, the development of detailed financial reporting and projections, the launch of our current website, and the implementation of a new registration system.

Christy has also represented OSCA in the community by helping to coordinate both a provincial and municipal “All Candidates” meetings with other Ottawa Centre community associations, by representing OSCA on the “Lansdowne Working Group” and by helping coordinate the “Community Pillars Group of Old Ottawa South.”

These are but a few of Christy’s many contributions to OSCA. She was an excellent liaison with municipal and provincial representatives and quick to identify opportunities for Operations at the Firehall. We wish Christy Savage the very best in all her future undertakings.

New Management and Program Delivery Team

Administrative Coordinator

For several months now, Matthew Mitchell has been working as the Administrative Coordinator at the Firehall. Matthew has been with OSCA since 2018 and has worked in the not-for-profit sector for almost 10 years. Before coming to the Firehall, Matthew worked at Dovercourt Recreation Association for four years.  Matthew’s interests include history, hiking, cycling, and sports in general as both a player and spectator. We think you’ll find Matthew very helpful and knowledgeable when it comes to OSCA programming and operations.

Program Coordinators and Administrative Support

For many of the families and kids in OOS, Katherine Boisvert and Darcy Middaugh are the public “face” of Firehall programs. Their commitment and creativity to the safety and wellbeing of our community is tireless. Both Katherine and Darcy will continue to manage After4, School Break and Summer Camps, and Adult Programs.  

Darcy Middaugh has worked with the Firehall for almost 20 years. He loves entertaining with song and guitar in preschool classes, at special events, with a local cover band or around a campfire. Darcy also has a keen interest in developing programs for older adults and is excited about being more creative when delivering OSCA’s hybrid of virtual and in-person programs for the Firehall. While working remotely during COVID-19, Darcy’s interests in content creation expanded to include graphic design, video editing, and promotion.

Katherine Boisvert started at OSCA in 2006, coordinating playgroup once a week and face painting at special events. From 1991 to 1996 Katherine worked at the Boys and Girls Club as a camp coordinator and lifeguard and to this day continues to work at Pinecrest pool as Head Instructor and Lifeguard. Katherine is also an avid camper. She has been a member of Girl Guides of Canada since 1974 and over the years has filled a variety of roles to help fulfill their mission of being a catalyst for “girls empowering girls.” Katherine met her husband Tim at the Boys and Girls Club and they are the proud parents of Olivia, Owen, and Sara.

Luke Sears is new to the not-for-profit sector and OSCA. Luke has been providing administrative support to the Firehall team since 2019. He hails from Saint John, N.B. and has his Bachelor in Hospitality and Tourism Management from Algonquin College. Luke enjoys working in the not-for-profit sector and looks forward to growing his skill sets.

As OSCA continues to develop its organizational footing post pandemic, Past President Michael Jenkin and Vice-President Winnie Pietrykowski will provide management and policy oversight on behalf of OSCA’s Board of Directors. Both are members of OSCA’s Executive Committee.
