A big thank you to volunteers Christine & Mike Bradley for your generosity and hard work in organizing a plant drive for the Green Dreamers at the Sunnyside library.
As the tulips fade, can the sunflowers be far behind?
Come with your plants, stay for the books.
The Green Dreamers will gladly accept donations of plants at the library on Saturday, June 8th. Chat with the volunteers taking care the library gardens and other green spots along Bank Street and learn more about the work of this dedicated crew.
In June 2018, Sandra Garland from the Fletcher Wildlife Garden planted a variety of young native plants at our local library. With the help of Sandra and some very dedicated Green Dreamers we have managed to keep these native transplants alive and thriving. Among the varieties planted at the Sunnyside Library you will find: arrow-leaved Asters, Beebalm, Joe-Pye Weed, Nodding Onions, Upland White Goldenrods, and Pearly Everlastings.
Green Dreamers met at the Library Saturday morning June 23rd, 2018 8:30-10:30 a.m.
On Wednesday a patch of the long garden near Bank was cleared of sow thistle and a variety of native plants planted (Arrow-leaved Asters, Beebalm, Joe-Pye Weeds, Nodding Onions, Upland White Goldenrods, and Pearly Everlasting).
Green Dreamers: The City will not be delivering mulch this week. Instead, we will be planting.
We have received a significant donation of native plants from the Fletcher Wildlife Garden at the Central Experimental Farm! The list includes over 40 different plants including 6 varieties of aster, beebalm, Joe-Pye weed, hyssop, nodding onion, prairie smoke, turtlehead, yarrow, and more. All these are available now and they are in need of planting.
The Sunnyside branch of the Ottawa Public Library is one of the gems of our Old Ottawa South neighbourhood. Much loved and very well used by young and old, it has been in existence almost as long as the entire Ottawa library system itself, but of course it looked very different in the beginning.
Here are some pictures from Friday morning's (July 21st) Green Dreamer gathering at the Library. Christine & Mike secured a lovely selection of plants from Krysia's garden on Riverdale earlier in the week and with the help of fellow Green Dreamers transplanted mature succulents, lavender, and generous clumps of sedum in the once empty Bank Street planter. Needless to say, more mulch was added!
