On Saturday, July 20, 2019, the communities of the Glebe, Old Ottawa East, and Old Ottawa South celebrated the opening of the Flora Footbridge that stretches from Fifth Avenue in the Glebe to Clegg Street in Old Ottawa East.
New Pedestrian Crossing in Old Ottawa South
In another step towards making Capital Ward the safest place for active transportation in Ottawa, the National Capital Commission (NCC) and the City of Ottawa have come to an Approval in Principle for a new intersection pedestrian signal (IPS) to facilitate crossings of Colonel By Drive at Seneca Street. The crossing point will include a traffic signal to control vehicles on Colonel By Drive, and a pedestrian crosswalk and cycling crossride to access cycling and pedestrian facilities along Seneca Street.

Saint Margaret Mary Church Closing
St. Margaret Mary, the modest red-brick church opposite the Firehall, is closing.
Father Pierre Champoux, the part-time pastor at St. Margaret Mary, told the OSCAR in an email that: “The parish is no longer financially or pastorally viable, due to the lack of parishioners and regular revenue.”

In the 1990s the burgeoning development of South Ottawa, in areas such as Hunt Club and Greenboro, triggered a move to distinguish Ottawa South from other parts of the the city by changing the neighbourhood name to 'Old Ottawa South'.
