Reimagining the Fieldhouse at Windsor Park

On November 26, 2019, OSCA hosted a public meeting at the Firehall seeking residents’ views on the future of the fieldhouse at Windsor Park. The meeting was attended by about 30 people including our Councillor, Shawn Menard.

OSCA Board members Michael Jenkin and Luc Pellerin launched a presentation that displayed vividly the fieldhouse’s current dilapidated state, and estimated the potential costs of a renovation and a rebuild. Two flipcharts invited participants’ suggestions for the structural changes, as well as new or enhanced programming in the Park. Each participant was handed six sticky ‘dots’ to then vote for their preferred options in each category, three for facilities (or structures), and three for programming.

OSCA calls for sustainable, transparent development

OSCA's Planning and Zoning Committee has called on the City of Ottawa Agriculture and Rural Affairs and Planning Committees to be more cognizant of climate change and more clear about how its proposed policies would affect neighbourhoods in a submission to a joint meeting of the two bodies. There was little time given to review the new official plan and only five days allotted for public review and comment.

OSCA Winter Art Show & Sale

From November 13th - November 20th, OSCA will be taking submissions for the Winter Art Show & Sale at the Firehall. Artists working in any medium may submit one winter-themed piece along with a completed submission form. Pieces will be displayed in the Firehall lobby from November 24, 2019 - February 29, 2020 and 100% of the selling price goes to the artist.

Gratitude to Bob Adamyk for Serving Up a Feeling of Community Through OSCA Sports

About two years ago I arrived at Hopewell School on a Monday night to play volleyball for the first time in 19 years. I was unsure if I could still serve the ball in a straight line, or be able to walk the next day after muscle soreness set in. I was immediately greeted by Bob Adamyk who, for the last thirty years, has coordinated recreational sports at Hopewell School for community members interested in playing volleyball, basketball and badminton.

The second Capital Spokes Bike Rally & Rodeo was held on Sunday, June 2, 2019 in Windsor Park. This year the Old Ottawa South Community Association (OSCA) and the Ottawa Tennis & Lawn Bowling Club (OTLBC) collaborated to stretch Capital Spokes into a weekend event.
