Four artists have been shortlisted to participate in a mentorship opportunity to design, fabricate and install an artist-designed public bench. Two artists will be selected to design benches that will be installed on the western side of the Rideau Canal, between the Rideau Canal and the re-landscaped wetland area.  One bench will be commissioned specifically to an Algonquin artist.

Colonel By Drive at Bank Street Exit (Echo Drive).

Safe Crossing of Colonel By Drive

Over the course of the winter and spring, the people of Ottawa and, in particular, the residents of Old Ottawa South, have benefitted from a temporary set of traffic lights on Colonel By Drive at the intersection of Echo Drive as it heads up to Bank Street. These lights, admittedly not pretty, meant no dodging of speeding cars to get across Colonel By, no long waits to cross while a seemingly endless stream of cars passes by, and no looking longingly at the canal wishing we had a safe access point.

Unfortunately, these temporary traffic lights were related to the rehabilitation of the eastern canal wall between Echo Drive and Pig Island.  Now that the work has been completed, the lights have disappeared.  However, our desire for a permanent safe crossing has not disappeared but rather has been strengthened.

New Pedestrian Crossovers Open on the Queen Elizabeth Driveway

Two new pedestrian crossovers, the first project completed in Ottawa under the Government of Canada’s Public Transit Infrastructure Fund (PTIF), opened December 22, 2016 along the Queen Elizabeth Driveway.

The pedestrian crossovers are located on the west side of the Bank Street Bridge (east of Queen Elizabeth Place) and mid-block at Commissioners Park. Pedestrian crossovers were installed city-wide earlier this year along low-speed, low-volume roads.
