HalloweeK is coming soon to OSCA!

All Hallow's Eve is fast approaching and we're getting in the festive spirit! From October 23rd to 30th, we'll be hosting a myriad of fun social-distance-appropriate activities, including:

  • The Firehall front porch will be transformed into a spooky backdrop perfect for taking photos of kids in their costumes, starting on October 23rd! Come by day or night to snap some photos, bearing in mind to keep your social distance from others
  • Porch/yard spooktacular decorating contest! Ghoulify your property by October 23rd, snap a photo and e-mail it to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. All photos will be posted on our Facebook page for the neighbourhood to vote on and the best ones will earn bragging rights (and maybe a small prize....). Be sure to include your address when submitting!

  • A virtual magic workshop with magician Chris Pilsworth on Thursday, October 29th (more details to come)

After 4 Update - Limited Spaces Available

OSCA staff have been working hard with the Operations Committee and the Board to develop an operational plan to open After 4. After weeks of planning, we have a detailed plan that was recently approved by the Operations Committee, the OSCA Board, and the City of Ottawa. The operation plan follows all procedures and requirements set by Ottawa Public Health.

We are proud to announce that we welcomed our first cohort back to the Firehall on Wednesday, September 16th! If you would like to register for a spot, we urge you to do so as soon as possible, allowing us to create the next cohort(s).

We want to share some of the key changes we've made to the way we will be operating After 4 in the Fall:

We’ve also been hard at work planning next steps for reopening the Firehall. After much consideration and discussion, the Executive Committee, Staff and Board of Directors have decided to launch programs in four phases:

Working towards 2020 Fall Programming

Before March, before COVID-19, before the closure of City recreational facilities, and before the closure of The Firehall, OSCA’s Executive Committee met quarterly unless special circumstances demanded otherwise.

Once federal, provincial, and municipal governments (in collaboration with public health authorities) ordered an immediate lockdown, OSCA cancelled all programming, including the Firehall Fitness Centre, the Pottery Studio, as well as on-site Board and Committee meetings.

Thus began our virtual community lives by Zoom. The Executive now meets weekly - more often when required - and updates the Board of Directors on actions taken and makes recommendations/proposals to the Board.
