Need some ideas while you're at home for the next couple of weeks? The Firehall team will post some activity ideas every couple of days for parents to download.  Our ideas will pop up in PDF form. The links should be live so you can go directly to some of the pages we use.

OSCA Colouring Pages: We'd love to feature some of the kids' artwork on social media so if they colour a sheet, email a picture of it to Darcy and Katherine at firehallcoordinators@oldottawasouth.ca and we'll make a little gallery on Facebook of the submissions. We can't wait to see all the beautiful pictures!

Speaking to Children About COVID-19

Children are curious and will ask questions about COVID-19. This is understandable given that they are hearing about it everywhere they turn. Some of them are afraid of the current situation and others just want to better understand what is happening around them. 


In order to put children at ease when asked about COVID-19, these are some steps and tips you could use that can aid in the conversation (Adapted from recommendations by the CBC, Unicef, Kids Health, and the CDC)


Refugee Sponsorship 101

Refugee 613Do you want more information before committing to sponsoring a refugee from Syria or elsewhere? Do you need help forming a group?

Refugee 613, in partnership with the Coalition in Ottawa for Refugees and Ottawa City Councillor David Chernushenko, is hosting a neighborhood workshop on the basics of private refugee sponsorship.

You'll get an overview of the different pathways to sponsorship, a chance to talk to experienced sponsors about the process, and the opportunity to network with like-minded people in your ward.


City of Ottawa: Planning Primer Course Materials

The City of Ottawa offers a series of courses designed to help citizens become familiar with issues related to urban planning.

The instructural information from these courses—Planning Primer 1 & Planning Primer 2— is now available online, courtesy of the Federation of Citizens' Associations of Ottawa-Carleton: see the FCA Resource section for details. Also included are the materials related to the elective courses on the Ontario Municipal Board, Understanding Residential Intensification and Infill, and Secondary Planning Processes.
