Green Dreamers: Back on the Job!

Gardening Restart June 22, 2020

Wouldn’t you know it as soon as I wrote the last update we got the word from the city Adopt-a-Road program manager that we could restart gardening respecting physical distance, wearing gardening gloves of course and having no more than 10 people at the bed at any one time.

Green Dreamers Spring Update

Our local gardening group has had an unusually easy beginning this spring season with the Covid outbreak. My spouse Mike and I took over the job of coordinating this group which was so ably done by Winnie Pietrykowski and Brian Ure for the last four years.

Reaching Seniors in Old Ottawa South - Meal Delivery Service

Old Ottawa South's Trinity Anglican Church recently received a federal "New Horizons for Seniors" grant. With this grant - and in response to the restrictions experienced by seniors during the COVID pandemic - Trinity Anglican Church has created a new program called "Reaching Seniors in Old Ottawa South" (RSOOS). RSOOS is a partnership of professionals, local organizations, and volunteers, that is part of the Trinity Anglican Church neighbourhood hub. One of the first initiatives to come out of this RSOOS is a meal delivery program.

Green Dreamers: Welcome to our Fifth Season!

Yes, we’re back! So, if you see us in the neighbourhood wave, stop for a chat, share some of your gardening insights and suggestions. We are always delighted to see and hear from you. It’s why we garden in Old Ottawa South's public spaces; aside, that is, from the intrinsic rewards of gardening itself.

Spring 2018 begins our fifth season tending public beds along Bank Street and Sunnyside Avenue. And with the passing of winter we are preparing to rethink and “rejig” how we work as volunteer gardeners. So, if you have an opinion or some ideas about how we might do things differently, we’d like to hear from you.
